What is the latest official U.S. population estimate here?
The latest supported national observation is 341,784,857 residents on July 1, 2025, from Census PEP Vintage 2025. The dataset was released during 2026; the source publication year and the population reference year are different dates. Read the release notes.
Is a census count the same as an annual population estimate?
A census count measures population on a census date. Annual PEP estimates update dated resident totals using the program's accounting and methodology. A revised estimates base is also distinct from the original census count. See the exact 2020 count and base comparison.
Why do two websites report different population figures?
Check the geographic unit, observation date, population universe, source product and release vintage. City-proper and metro totals describe different boundaries; an ACS survey-period estimate also differs from a PEP annual total. Read about population revisions.
How do I find a historical population figure?
Use the historical explorer to select a supported place and interval. Annual estimates cover 2020–2025. National, state and DC decennial counts cover 1910–2020. Unsupported years remain missing, and the two measurement types are displayed separately.
How do I cite and download a population figure?
Every place profile provides a citation and CSV export. Keep the geographic code, reference date, Census source file, variable and release ID. Read the download and citation guide or choose a complete dataset on the downloads page.
